Obituary of Burton Roland Arthurs
Burton Roland Arthurs passed away at the Saint John Regional Hospital on March 16, 2004. He was born in Saint John in 1920 and was a life long resident of the City. He was the son of Frank H. and Viola (Godfrey) Arthurs. He served overseas in World War II and upon returning after the war owned and operated Quality Packing on Main Street. In 1961 he began a career in sales with the Willet Fruit Company, retiring as Purchasing Manager in 1985. He was a strongly committed Christian who was always involved in the work of the Church. He taught Sunday School and served on various Boards and Committees. At the time of his death he was a member of the Apohaqui Community Church. He was a devoted husband to his wife of 60 years, Lillian (Clarke) who died in 2001. He was a loving, generous father, grandfather and brother. His laughter, kindness and smile will be missed by all who knew him. Survived by his daughter Joanne Vincent and her husband Frank of Apohaqui, NB, his sons Brian and his wife Betty and Gary and his wife Diane, both of Saint John, NB, his sisters Frances Shaw and Doreen Campbell (James), both of Quispamsis, NB and Elva Jorgensen (Eric) of Sussex, NB, his sisters-in-law Eleanor Neill (Trevor) of Saint John and Ruth Elderkin of Wolfville, NS, grandchildren Kevin Vincent (Sandra), Karyn MacLeod (Todd), Timothy, Matthew, David and Sarah Arthurs, great grandchildren Emily, Jeremy and Joshua Vincent, Amanda and Jenna MacLeod, several nieces and nephews. Resting at Brenan's Select Community Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John, NB, (506) 634-7424, with visitation on Wednesday from 2-4 and 7-9 PM. A funeral service will be held on Thursday, March 18th, 2004 at 1:00 PM in the chapel at Brenan's Funeral Home. Interment will take place in Fernhill Cemetery. For those who wish, donations may be made to the Apohaqui Community Church or to a charity of the donor's choice.
