Obituary of Muriel Louise Hawker

The death of Miss Muriel Louise Hawker, of Turnbull Nursing Home, Saint John, occurred on Wednesday, October 29, 2003, at the Saint John Regional Hospital. Born in Saint John, on February 5, 1905, she was the daughter of the late Joseph Edward and Margaret Louise (Dunn) Hawker. Miss Hawker graduated from high school in 1922 and then Provincial Normal School, and taught in the Saint John area for over 46 years before her retirement. She was a high honors graduate of McGill School of Music and taught piano, music and Scottish dance to many young people. Muriel was very active in her Anglican faith and was a former member of St. Luke's Anglican Church and presently a member of Trinity Anglican Church. In her younger years Muriel was active with the Girl Guides of Canada and as the District Commissioner for many years. She is survived by several nieces, nephews and many friends. She was predeceased by two sisters, Florence Lindsay and Doris Gaffney and one brother, Ronald Hawker Resting at Brenan's Select Community Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John (634-7424), with visiting on Friday 2-4 and 7-9 PM. Funeral service will be held at Trinity Anglican Church on Saturday, November 1, 2003 at 11:00 AM. Interment in Fernhill Cemetery. Remembrances to Trinity Anglican Church or the charity of the donors choice would be appreciated.
