Obituary of Barbara MacKinnon
The death of Barbara MacKinnon, formerly of Charles Crescent, Rothesay, wife of the late Donald H. MacKinnon, occurred on Tuesday, February 17, 2004 at the St. John and St. Stephen Church Home, Saint John. Born at Princeville, Cape Breton, Nova Scotia, daughter of the late Allan John and Jemima Donena (Cameron) MacQuarrie, Barbara was a registered nursing assistant at the Saint John General and Saint John Regional Hospitals from 1962 until her retirement in 1990. She was a member of Silver Falls United Church and was one of the founding members of the Heather Society, which was responsible for the promotion of highland dancing and piping in the Saint John area. She is survived by one son, Dan Alan MacKinnon and his wife Wendy of Rothesay; one daughter, Donena Katheryn Miller and her husband William of Bonhill, Alexandria, Scotland; one grandson Donald Tyson MacKinnon (Sue Vincent); three sisters: Marguerite Cruickshank of Braintree, Massachusetts, Catherine Ware of Monterey, California, Anne Ferguson of Port Hawkesbury, Nova Scotia; sister-in-law Sadie MacQuarrie, Port Hastings, Cape Breton, Nova Scotia; and several nephews and nieces. She leaves behind her faithful and kind friends, Kaye Hooper, Rita Buckley and Edna Garvin. She was predeceased by her brother George MacQuarrie and two sisters, Julia MacDonald and Minerva Perrin. Resting at Brenan's Select Community Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John, N.B., (506-634-7424), with visiting on Wednesday, February 18 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. The funeral will be held from Brenan's Chapel with service on Thursday, February 19 at 4:00 p.m. Mrs. MacKinnon will be transferred to Dennis Haverstock Funeral Homes, Port Hawkesbury, Nova Scotia, for visiting on Saturday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. The funeral will be held from Dennis Haverstock Funeral Homes with service on Sunday, February 22 at 2:30 p.m. Interment will take place in the Princeville United Church Cemetery in the spring. Remembrances may be made to the charity of the donor's choice.
