Obituary of Kathleen Mary Bernadette Hval

Kathleen passed away peacefully in her sleep early in the morning of Saturday, December 27, 2003. She was 87 and is survived by her son Brian, daughter-in-law Kathleen and her sister Patricia. She is predeceased by her sisters Nora, Bridget, Jean and Letitia and brother Sean. Kathleen was born in Belfast, Ireland to Michael and Letitia O'Reilly. During her teenage years she helped with the family grocery business. In 1945 she met a young Canadian soldier, Harold Hval, and became a war bride. She immigrated to Canada in 1947. The streets of bustling Belfast were replaced by the open prairie sky of Brooks, Alberta. Her only son, Brian, was born there in 1948. The family then moved to Calgary. She helped build the family home and enjoyed the beauty of the foothills of the Rocky Mountains, the Bow River and her summer garden. Her husband passed away in 1994. In 2003 she joined her son in Saint John, New Brunswick. She enjoyed a beautiful Maritime summer and was an avid fan of the local Irish musicians. Family and friends will miss her kindness and generous spirit. Funeral services will be held at 2 PM, Friday, January 2, 2004, at St. Francis Catholic Church (211-6 Avenue SE), Calgary, Alberta. She will be buried next to her beloved husband Harold, in Queen's Park Cemetery in Calgary.
