Obituary of George Gray Harrison

The death of George Gray Harrison of 347 Main Street, Saint John, husband of the late E. Jean Harrison, occurred on Monday, July 7, 2003, at his residence. Born in Saint John, on March 17, 1910, he was the son of the late Herbert G. and Florence R. (Hunter) Harrison. Mr. Harrison attended Dufferin, King George and Saint John High School's and took a business course at Saint John Vocational School. He worked for several years at the Royal Bank, North End Branch and later worked with his father in the Wholesale Produce Business. In 1936 he married Marjorie H. Pearce. In 1942 he joined the air crew of the RCAF and was disqualified for medical reasons and later served as air crew in Gander Airbase in Newfoundland. He received his discharge after V.E. Day in 1946. When the firm of H. G. Harrison sold the building on the corner of Main and Simonds Streets, he supervised the winding up of the business. Following his wife's death he married Jean (Mott) Taylor in 1976, who died in 1993. He was a lifelong member of St. Luke's Anglican Church and was a director of the Canadian Gladiolas Society for many years. He was a member of the Saint John Salvage Corps for many years retiring as Captain. Among his many hobbies, he enjoyed gardening, weaving, building model ships, carpentry, cutting his own firewood and some genealogical research. He was born at 347 Main Street and lived there all of his life. He is survived by several cousins and many friends. Resting at Brenan's Select Community Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John (634-7424), with visiting on Tuesday 2-4 and 7-9 PM. Funeral service will be held at St. Luke's Anglican Church on Wednesday, July 9, 2003, at 10:00 AM. Interment in Fernhill Cemetery. Remembrances to the CNIB or the Saint John Public Library would be appreciated.
