Obituary of Ronald J. Cook

The death of Ronald J. Cook, husband of Helen M. (Gibson) Cook, occurred on January 19, 2004, at the Saint John Regional Hospital. Born in Charlo, NB, he was the son of the late Peter William and Mary (McTaggart) Cook. He was a veteran of WW II serving overseas with the North Shore Regiment. He was part of the 'D' Day landing and was wounded on July 4th. He was a member of the War AMPS and a member of the Royal Canadian Legion with whom he was employed as a Provincial Service Officer for 30 years. Even after his retirement he continued to work tirelessly for veteran's affairs. He was a sports enthusiast having played ice hockey in Canada and England during the war. He was recognized for various sports with numerous medals. He had a large circle of hockey friends he continuously kept in touch with. He and his wife Helen celebrated their 60th Wedding Anniversary on August 24, 2003. Besides his wife he is survived by his sons Ronald 'Gary' Cook and William 'David' Cook both of Saint John, his daughter-in-law Carol Cook, his grandchildren Heather Lee Cook, William Jon Cook and Lyndsey Pydynkowski, his special niece Janice Duke and several cousins, nieces and nephews. His sisters Muriel and Freda and his brothers Archie, James, Douglas and Alex predeceased him. Resting at Brenan's Select Community Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John, NB, (506-634-7424), with visiting on Tuesday from 7-9 PM and Wednesday from 2-4 and 7-9 PM. The Royal Canadian Legion will hold a Tribute to a Veteran Service at 7:30 PM on Wednesday. The funeral service will be held on Thursday, January 22, 2004, at 11:00 AM, from Brenan's Chapel. Following cremation interment will take place at Cedar Hill Extension, Field of Honour. Remembrances made to the War AMPS Champs Program or the charity of choice would be appreciated.
