Obituary of Christopher G. Howlett

The death of Christopher “Chris” Gerard Howlett, of Clifton Royal, NB, husband of Cathy (McLaughlin) Howlett, occurred on Monday, April 26, 2004 at the Saint John Regional Hospital, following a lengthy illness and courageous fight for life. Born in Saint John, on April 26, 1957, he was the son of Ralph and Joan (McBriarty) Howlett of Summerville, NB. Chris was a graduate of St. Malachy's High School, attended UNB Saint John and graduated from the Technical University of Nova Scotia with a B. Arch. and BEDS He worked as an Architect employed with various local companies including J.W.H. Murdoch Architect's, Comeau MacKenzie Architecture Partnership, Housing Alternatives, Anderson Architect's and most presently ADI. Chris was presently a member of the Architect's Association of New Brunswick and the Renovations Committee of St. Bridget's Parish, Chapel Grove. He had served as a board member of Housing Alternatives, Rehabitat Inc. and the Heritage Preservation Review Board for several years. Chris was the recipient of the Excellence in Heritage Preservation Award, City of Saint John 1996 and has worked extensively over the years with non-profit housing. Besides his wife and parents, he is survived by two daughters, Kendra and Lauren both at home, one brother, Joe (Angie) of Summerville, five sisters, Rose Pitt (Gary) of Clifton Royal, Judy Gamble (Gary) of Summerville, Karen Jones (Thane) of Long Reach, Denise Howlett (Gig Kierstead) of Erbs Cove and Francine Baxter (Bill) of Summerville, father- and mother-in-law, Bill and Nancy (Gallant) McLaughlin of Summerville, several aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews. Resting at Brenan's Select Community Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John (634-7424), with visiting on Tuesday and Wednesday 2-4 and 7-9 PM. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Peter's Church, Clarendon Street, on Thursday, April 29, 2004 at 11:00 AM. Following cremation, interment will take place at St. Bridget's Cemetery, Chapel Grove. Remembrances to St. Bridget's Building Fund, Saint John Regional Hospital Dialysis Unit or London Health Sciences, MOTU would be appreciated. The family would like to pay tribute to the two donors who allowed Chris an additional six years of life.
