Obituary of Grace Gilmour Stanley
The death of Grace Gilmour Stanley of Saint John, NB, wife of the late Frank D. Stanley, occurred on Monday, March 19, 2007 at the Ridgewood Veterans Wing. Born in Deal, Kent, England on January 30, 1920 the daughter of the late Samuel and Stewart (Brown) Hodge. During World War II, Grace had served with the British Woman’s Auxiliary Air Force from April 1941 until her discharge September 1945; after moving to Saint John her employment was with Murdoch Lingley Land Surveyor as an Office Clerk until her retirement at age 80. She volunteered incalculable hours with the Royal Canadian Legion and in 2000 was honoured Provincially as the Veteran of the Year. Grace was a Past-president of Saint John Legion Branch # 64. Survived by a son, Ian Stanley of Saint John; son-in-law, Fred Mullett of Quispamsis, NB; four grandchildren: Steven (Cyndi) Mullett, Lisa (Jim) Fudge, Angela (David) Watson, Derek (Carrie) Mullett; six great-grandchildren: Gregory, Nicholas and Samuel Fudge, Brayden and Sally Watson, Hilary and Clare Mullett; and several nieces and nephews. Predeceased by her parents and her husband, Frank; a daughter, Jill Mullett; two brothers, John G. and Eric Hodge. Resting at Brenan’s Select Community Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John (506) 634-7424 with visiting on Tuesday from 7-9 pm and Wednesday from 2-4 and 7-9 pm. A Tribute to a Veteran Service will be held at the Funeral Home on Wednesday evening at 7 pm. Funeral Service will be held from St. James the Less Church, 1760 Rothesay Rd., Rothesay, NB on Thursday, March 22, 2007 at 11 am. Interment will be in Ocean View Memorial Gardens. Remembrances may be made to the Saint John Regional Hospital Foundation (Kidney Dialysis Unit) or a charity of the donor’s choice.
