Obituary of Gladys Phillis Horne
The death of Gladys Horne, wife of Donald Horne of Rothesay, NB occurred unexpectedly at the Saint John Regional Hospital on February 7, 2007. She was born in Moncton, NB on September 24, 1940 to the late Russel and Lilus (Mullin) Bovard. Gladys was a 1963 graduate of the Moncton Hospital School of Nursing and practiced at St. Joseph’s Hospital until her retirement in 2000. She was Anglican by faith. Gladys volunteered for many years for the Kennebecasis Valley Figure Skating Club, KV Minor Hockey and in the start-up and daily operation of the library at Rothesay Elementary School. Gladys was a long time charitable organization canvasser. She loved nursing and earned an enviable reputation in the profession, both as a duty nurse and as a supervisor. Gladys was not only a co-worker but also a dear friend. She and Don loved to travel for family visits and to learn about new places and people. They were looking forward to another trip to Spain, particularly Portugal, where they felt a warm welcome and very much at home. Gladys was best friend and wise counsel to Don, during their 43 years of marriage. She will be lovingly missed in the community and by her family. Besides her loving husband Don, Gladys is survived by their three children: Gregg (Melissa) Horne of Toronto, ON, Krista (Bartlee) Jones of Rich Valley, VA and Derrick Horne of Vancouver, BC; one sister: Barbara (John) Leadbetter of Moncton, NB; three grandchildren Dylan and Delaney Jones and Sidney Hauber. At Gladys’ request, there will be no visitation. Arrangements have been entrusted to Brenan’s Select Community Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John, NB (506-634-7424) where a memorial service will be held on Tuesday, February 13, 2007 at 1 pm with a reception to follow immediately after the service. In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made to the St Joseph’s Hospital Foundation, Heart and Stroke Foundation of New Brunswick, Alzheimer’s Society of New Brunswick or the charity of the donor’s choice in person, by phone or via our website: www.brenansfh.com
