Obituary of George F. Teed

TEED, GEORGE F. - The death of George F. Teed occurred on Sunday, December 30, 2007. Born in Saint John, New Brunswick in 1915, he was the son of J.F.H. Teed and Muriel V. (Wetmore) Teed, and was predeceased by his wife of 53 years Janice D. (Harrison) Teed. George lived life to the fullest in his community, even during his later years. He was an active member and leader of many organizations including, St. Paul’s (Valley) Church Choir and Vestry, Trinity Church Choir, St. Andrew’s Curling Club, Rothesay Tennis Club, RKYC, The Armouries Badminton Club, YMCA, St. George’s Society, NB Branch of the Loyalist Association of Canada, Saint John Historical Society, Saint John General Hospital Board of Directors, RCS, Old Boys Association, Rothesay Playhouse, Fundy Frolics, Saint John Theatre Group, KV Players, NB Symphony, Dance Club, and Choral Groups including most recently The Carleton Choristers. He attended Winter Street School, graduated from Rothesay Collegiate School (RCS) and attended the University of Kings College in Halifax. George began his career working for W. Pittfield, T. McAvity & Sons, Red Rose Tea and Canada Veneers, before going into business for himself. He owned and operated various businesses over the years in wholesale lumber, fishing and agriculture, housing construction, building products and hotel management. He opened the first car rental company in Saint John. George thoroughly enjoyed his friends, of whom he had many. He was a very positive and sociable person. He will be missed by his many friends of all ages and from many walks of life. He is survived by his six children: Margot Burke (Donald) of Dartmouth, Janice Willis (Raymond) of Saint John, John Teed (Patricia) of Rothesay, George Teed (Valerie) of Rothesay, Brian (Butch) Teed (Sandy Hatfield)of Rothesay, and Bill Teed (Stephanie) of Rothesay, his sixteen grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren, and his sisters Mary Gillis and Gloria Trivett and brothers Eric Teed and Hugh Teed. He was predeceased by sisters Hazel Hazen and Beth Young. Resting at Brenans Select Community Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John, NB (634-7424), with visitation on Tuesday, January 1, 2008, 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m.. A funeral service will be held at Trinity Anglican Church, Charlotte Street, on Wednesday, January 2, 2008 at 1:00 pm. Remembrances to the Hon. Nancy Elizabeth Clark Teed Charitable Foundation Inc., the Multiple Sclerosis Society of Canada and to All Saints Anglican Church (Clifton) would be appreciated.
