Obituary of Mary Josephine Marks

It is with deep sadness that the family of Mary Josephine Marks acknowledges her death on Saturday, March 1, 2008. She passed away at her home of the past twenty-two years, St. John and St. Stephen Church Home, surrounded by her family. Mary was born on September 4, 1917 a daughter of the late William John and Mary Adelaide (Cameron) Marks. Mary attended Alexandra School despite adversity and physical impairments due to cerebral palsy, until the sixth grade and continued to grasp a great wealth of knowledge via media and interaction with family and friends. At a very young age she persevered in learning the art of needlework and to this very day many of her beautiful pieces of work adorn family homes. Everyone who knew Mary loved and admired her caring, compassionate ways and her sense of humour. As a resident of the Church Home she completed the Pastoral Care Course and on many occasions was called upon to sit with residents as they passed away. She touched the hearts of all who knew her and will be greatly missed. The fabric of her family has a large hole in it, we will miss you Mornie! Survived by two sisters, Margaret Peters of Saint John and Ethel Power of Halifax, NS; a special niece, Bonnie Peters of Saint John; several nieces and nephews. Predeceased by four brothers, Lee, William, Russell and Roy, and two sisters, Mona and Blanche. Resting at Brenan’s Select Community Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John (506) 634-7424. Visiting will be at St. John and St. Stephen Church Home, 130 University Ave, Saint John from 10 am on Thursday, March 6, 2008 until the time of the service at 2 pm. Interment will be in Greenwood Cemetery in the spring. Remembrances may be made to the Shriner’s Hospital for Children, IWK Health Center or St. John and St. Stephen Church Home Pastoral Care.
