Obituary of Elizabeth J. Cail
The death of Elizabeth Jean Cail of Millidge Avenue, Saint John, NB, wife of the late Harold J. Cail, occurred on Tuesday, May 1, 2007 at the Saint John Regional Hospital. Born in Saint John, she was a daughter of the late Charles Rutherford and Rosina (Commins) Smith. Jean grew up in Gondola Point near Saint John. She would tell stories of the antics and fun she enjoyed at the Point. Jean lived a kind and generous life. She was a member of the Church of St. John Baptist (Mission Church) and St. Clements Church, where she participated in the church W.A. and Guild. She delivered Meals on Wheels for several years, and was an active member of the Saint John Genealogy Society. Jean had a life-long passion for gardening. She kept active bowling with her friends and exercising with the 3F Club at the Aquatic Centre. Jean will be remembered with love by her friends and family. Survived by her son, John Cail of Saint John; her daughters, Pamela Hickie (Thomas) of Fredericton, NB and Deborah Cail of Saint John; brother, Alfred LeRoy Smith (Barbara) of Ottawa, ON; sister, Dorothy McCabe (Robert) of Ottawa, ON; nephew, Tom Smith of Welsford, NB; sister-in-law, Margaret Smith of St. Catherines, ON; her grandchildren, William (Christina), James and Jessica Hickie (Dan Hicks); great-grandchildren, Thomas William “Billy” Lindsay and Alice Hickie of Ottawa, Abigail and Judas Hicks of Saint John, as well as several nieces and nephews. Jean was predeceased by her brothers, Charles “Tom” and Edward Smith and sister-in-law, Hattie Moffatt (Cameron). Resting at Brenan’s Select Community Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John (634-7424) with visiting on Thursday from 7-9 pm and Friday from 2-4 and 7-9 pm. Funeral Service will be held at St. John Baptist (Mission Church) and St Clements Church on Saturday, May 5, 2007 at 12:00 pm. Reception to follow the service at the church. Interment to take place in Ocean View Memorial Gardens. Remembrances may be made to a charity of the donor’s choice.
