Obituary of Merlin H. Jenkins
The death of Merlin Hayward Jenkins Sr. of Saint John, NB, husband of Marie (Perrin) Jenkins, occurred on Wednesday, April 9, 2008 at the Saint John Regional Hospital. Born at Young’s Cove Road, NB, he was a son of the late Eric and Eva (Brown) Jenkins. Merlin was employed with Lawson Motors and Clearview Mobile Homes as a salesman. He was a former member of Cumberland Bay Pentecostal Church, Free and Accepted Mason’s of NB, St. Martins Lodge #30 and coach and trainer of Old Black River Boxing Club, and enjoyed listening to country music. Besides his wife he is survived by sons, Dow (Kathy) Jenkins of Hampton, NB, and Merlin (Kim) Jenkins of Black River, NB; daughters, Mildred Tonge, Inez Gilbert, Kim (Ken) Chiasson all of Saint John, NB, and Iona Jenkins of Back Bay, NB; sisters, Inez (Lloyd) Hicks, Gloria (Doug) Phillips both of Quispamsis, NB, Hilda (Vince) Galbraith of Saint John, NB, Lois (Allan) Moss of Zealand, NB; many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews and his dog Beauty. Besides his parents he was predeceased by sons, Randolph and Raymond; grandsons, Dowie and Kyle. The family would like to thank the staff and residents of Church of St. John and St.Stephen Home Inc. Resting at Brenan's Select Community Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John (634-7424), with visiting on Thursday, April 10, 2008 from 2-4 and 7-9 pm. A funeral service will be held on Friday, April 11, 2008 from Brenan’s Funeral Home Chapel at 11:00 am. Interment will take place in the Pentecostal Church Cemetery, Cumberland Bay, NB, at a later date. Remembrances may be made to The Thomas Wood Playground in Miramichi, NB, or a charity of the donor’s choice.
