Obituary of Russell Dunlop Cassidy

Cassidy, Russell Dunlop – The death of Russell Dunlop Cassidy of Welshpool, NB (formerly of Saint John), husband of the late Marion Alice (Harrison) Cassidy, occurred on Tuesday, April 7, 2009 at Campobello Lodge, Welshpool, NB. Born on January 31, 1918, he was a son of the late James Arlington and Jennie Bessie (Floyd) Cassidy. Russell was a graduate of UNB and the University of Toronto. His early teaching career included: Bristol, NB, Dorchester, NB and RCS Rothesay, NB. Having taught for many years in the academic department of Saint John Vocational School and later at Rockwood Park Elementary School, he had great satisfaction following the accomplishments of his many students. While he summered his family at Epworth Park he enjoyed being a member of the Westfield Golf and Country Club. In his retirement he enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren. He is survived by his three children: Leonard Cassidy and his wife, Veronica Leland, Saint John, NB, Elsbeth Cassidy and her husband, Dr. Garth Lepine of North Sydney, NS, Susan Lockhart and her husband, Dr. Bruce Lockhart of Bath, NB; eight grandchildren: Sarah, Rosalie, Emily, Harrison, Ann, Kathryn, Louise and Stuart. Besides his wife he was predeceased by his siblings, James Arlington, Ronald Floyd and Murray David Cassidy and Lella Hamer. Arrangements are under the care of Brenan’s Select Community Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John (506) 634-7424 with visiting on Friday from 2-4 and 7-9 pm. Memorial Service will be held from Brenan’s Chapel on Saturday, April 11, 2009 at 10 am. Interment will be in Fernhill Cemetery.
