Obituary of Richard Archibald Finley

Finley, Richard Archibald … Richard Finley was born in Montreal, PQ, on April 11, 1952 and grew up in Lancaster, NB (now Saint John West) with his adopting parents Dr. John Armand Finley and Gretchen Frances Finley. Childhood was full of enjoyment of scouts, coin collecting and summers on the water in Mahone Bay, NS where he learned to sail . Always a cheerful boy, he had an amazingly inventive imagination and was always producing Rube Goldberg devices to the amusement of his family and friends. A graduate of Saint John High School and subsequently attended UNB. He was co-founder of Micro Ltd. Richard also worked as a record archivist and member of the Canadian Records Management Association. He was also a dedicated volunteer for the Fredericton Aquatic Team and as well as Core and Reform parties. His practical knowledge of mechanical, electrical and marine devices never ceased to amaze his family and friends whom he was always available to help. He enjoyed sailing his own boat out of Fredericton for years and more recently was a partner and chief handyman on the Laughing Dragon at RKYC and he had a passion for photography. His many friends will miss his keen sense of humour and delightful word play. In recent years he was devoted to his wonderful soul mate and partner, Lauren, as well as the care of his elderly mother and to his daughter and pride and joy, Sarah. He is survived by his partner Lauren, mother Gretchen, daughter Sarah, brother John (Carolyn) of Halifax, stepmother, Marietta, niece Christine Finley and nephew Ian Finley.
