Obituary of Zoe Angelopoulos
Zoe Angelopoulos of Saint John, wife of the late George Angelopoulos, passed away on Tuesday, August 04, 2009 at the Saint John Regional Hospital. Born at Molykrion, Greece, on September 27, 1923, she was a daughter of the late Ioannis and Paraskevi (Triandafilou) Papadopoulos. Zoe immigrated to Canada in 1958. She loved to cook, and introduced the “ekmek” (Greek Cake) to the Saint John Community. She was a good seamstress and babysitter; a homemaker to the entire Greek community of Saint John. She was a member of St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church. Zoe is survived by her son, Andrew Angelopoulos of Saint John; her daughter, Spiridoula Antoniou (Kosmas) of Athens, Greece; grandchildren George Angelopoulos, Zoe Angelopoulos (Donnie), Maxine Angelopoulos, George Antoniou, and Koula (Komninos) Vatidou; great grandchildren Angelo, Despina, and Stratos; sisters Eleni and Georgitsa, both of Greece; and several nieces and nephews. Zoe was predeceased by brothers Dimitri and Andreas; and by a sister, Vasiliki. Resting at Brenan's Select Community Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John (634-7424), with visiting on Thursday from 2-4 and 7-9 PM. The funeral service will be held on Friday at 10:00 AM from St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church, Dorchester Street. Interment will take place later in Cedar Hill Extension Cemetery. For those who wish, remembrances to the Heart and Stoke Foundation, the Canadian Diabetes Association, or the Saint John Regional Hospital Foundation would be appreciated by the family. The family would like to extend heartfelt thanks to the Doctors, Nurses, and Staff of 5CSouth for their exceptional care and compassion as they cared for Zoe over the past six weeks.
