Obituary of Joan Veronica Brewer
Surrounded by her family, the passing Joan Brewer, of Saint John, occurred at the Saint John Regional Hospital on Tuesday, June 9, 2009. She was born on April 4, 1937 in Saint John to the late Walter and Margaret (Durnell) Walker. Joan worked at Northern Telecom what is now Nortel until her retirement. She was a member of various church and service groups: St. Peter’s and St. Pius X Parish, NB Telephone Pioneers, Legion of Mary, Charismatic Prayer Group - Queen of Peace, I.B.E.W. and Shop Stewart of the U.A.W. and C.A.W.. Joan volunteered for Meals on Wheels and Rocmaura (Pastoral Care). She also participated in the re-enactment of the Passion of Jesus Christ (Passion Play). Joan is survived by two sons: Terry (Adam Driscoll) of Toronto, ON and Gerald (Jean) of Edmonton, AB; one daughter, Mary Reynolds (James) of Saint John; special friend, Margaret Seaman of Saint John; two sisters: Eleanor McKeary of Lubec, ME and Florence Gauthier of Windsor, ON; six grandchildren: Adam, Jamie, Brandon, Jennifer, Ashley and Bradley; one great granddaughter, Olivia Brewer and several nieces and nephews. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by three brothers: Ralph, William and Robert; two sisters: Nora Gill and Mary Walker and aunt, Florence Currie. Resting at Brenan's Select Community Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John (634-7424), with visiting on Saturday and Sunday from 2-4 and 7-9 pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated from St. Peter’s Church, 50 Clarendon Street, Saint John on Monday, June 15, 2009 at 11 am. Interment will follow in St. Joseph’s Cemetery. For those who wish, remembrances of Joan may be made to St. Peter’s Church or the Canadian Cancer Society.
