Obituary of Aquila Joseph Caissie
Aquila Joseph Caissie of Saint John, husband of the late Aline Mary (Savoie) Caissie, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, January 6, 2009 at the Saint John Regional Hospital, surrounded by his loving family. Born at St. Norbert, Kent County, he was a son of the late Louis and Elise (Maillet) Caissie. Aquila was a general contractor who built many homes, and was a foreman for the construction of the Hugh John Fleming Bridge in Hartland, as well as working for a time in Labrador. Aquila is best remembered as a hard worker who never really retired. Aquila is survived by two sons, Eugere and Clarence, both of Saint John; five daughters, Lovina Ayles (Skip) of Saint John, Lita St. Pierre (Frank McCormack) of Edmundston, Jeannine Caissie (Stephen Melanson) of Quispamsis, Huguette Rector (Kim) of Saint John, and Berni Vernon (Ric) of Orillia, Ontario; three sisters, Noella Maillet and Stella LeBlanc (Ulysse), both of St. Marie de Kent, and Theresa Savoie of Toronto; a brother, Gerard Caissie (Geralda) of Richibucto; several sisters-in-law; thirteen grandchildren, Diane St. Onge, Nancy, Conrad, and Ginette St. Pierre, Angela Ayles Hanson, Michael and Kevin Ayles, Scott, Todd, and David Caissie, Samantha, Hunter, and Ashtyn Vernon; several great grandchildren; nieces and nephews. In addition to his wife, Aquila was predeceased by a son, Raymond; a grandson, Jared Rector; a sister, Lena Collette; and brothers Lionel, Emile, Alcide, and Laurie. Resting at Brenan's Select Community Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John (634-7424), with visiting on Friday from 2-4 and 7-9 PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday at 11:00 AM from St. Pius X Church, 316 Somerset Street. Interment will take place in Ocean View Memorial Gardens. For those who wish, remembrances to the Multiple Sclerosis Society, the Saint John Animal Rescue League, or any charity of the donor’s choice would be appreciated by the family.
