Obituary of Jacqueline Wilma Steen
The death of Jacqueline Wilma Steen of Rothesay, wife of Donald E. Steen, occurred on Friday, October 3, 2008 at the Saint John Regional Hospital. Born at Marysville, she was a daughter of the late William and Agnes (Gorman) Everett. Jacquie trained and worked as a Registered Nurse at the Victoria Public Hospital in Fredericton, and worked in Lachute, Quebec and as an obstetrical nurse at the Halifax Infirmary. She was a member of St. David’s United Church, Rothesay. Jacquie and Don celebrated their 62nd wedding anniversary on September 18, 2008. Jacquie’s life was devoted to the needs of her husband and daughters. Her four grandchildren were the joy of her life. She was an avid reader and a gifted seamstress, who also enjoyed English smocking and quilting. An enthusiastic bridge player, Jacquie was a member of the Riverside Bridge Group and the Kennebecasis Park Bridge Group. She will be sadly missed by all. In addition to her husband, she is survived by her daughters, Judith (Dr. Stephen) Willis of Rothesay, and Jana Steen of Halifax; and by grandchildren Alexander Willis, Susan Willis, and Rachel Willis. Jacquie was predeceased by a grandson, David Willis; and by a sister, Roberta Everett. Resting at Brenan's Select Community Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John (634-7424), with visiting on Monday from 7-9 PM. The funeral service will be held on Tuesday at 2:30 PM from Brenan’s Chapel, followed immediately by a reception at the funeral home. Interment will take place in Fernhill Cemetery. For those who wish, remembrances to the Salvation Army or to any charity of the donor’s choice would be appreciated by the family.
