Obituary of Joan Clarke Barry
The death of Joan Clarke Barry of Saint John occurred at her residence in Saint John on Saturday, February 28th, 2009 after a lengthy illness. Ms. Barry was born in Saint John on December 22nd, 1921, the second daughter of the late Dr. John M. Barry and Bertha Clarke Barry. She is survived by her sister, Elizabeth Margaret Barry as well numerous cousins of both the Barry and Clarke families. Ms. Barry graduated from St. Vincent’s Girls’ High School in 1939 and obtained her Nursing Credentials from St. Francis Xavier University in Antigonish, Nova Scotia. She practiced nursing throughout her professional life initially with the Department of Veterans Affairs at the Lancaster DVA Hospital and subsequently as a Public Health Nurse serving all schools affiliated with the Saint John Board of School Trustees. Resting at Brenan's Select Community Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John (634-7424), with visiting on Monday, March 2nd, 2009 from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m.. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, March 3rd at 11:00 AM from St. Pius X Church, 316 Somerset Street, Saint John. Interment will take place in the family plot at St. Joseph’s Cemetery. A reception immediately following the funeral mass will held at St. Pius X Church. In lieu of flowers, remembrances to the Paul and Rita Barry Memorial Bursary Fund at the University of New Brunswick … Saint John would be appreciated by the family.
