Obituary of Helen Ann Shannon

Shannon, Helen Ann -- With family at her side, Helen Ann Shannon, wife of Gerard R. Shannon, passed away peacefully on Thursday, March 26, 2009, at the Saint John Regional Hospital. Helen Ann was born February 26, 1935 in Saint John. A daughter of the late Harold F. and Pearl (Chandler) Lynch. She had been a lifelong resident of this city. She was employed for a number of years at NB Tel before starting her family. After her family were educated she was employed as a teacher’s assistant caring for many special children at Bayview School, District 8 School Board. She was a former secretary treasurer of CUPE Local 2745, she was also a member of PROBUS Club, The Red Hatters Rothesay Golfettes, Ladies Group Wednesday Retirees, Royal Canadian Legion Branch # 64. She was a former Girl Guide Leader, and an avid knitter and competitive bowler. She was a member of St. Pius X Parish, and the Catholic Women’s League. Helen Ann is survived by her husband, Gerard, of 49 years, two sons; Peter (Terri) of Sussex, Sean (Michele) of Saint John. Two daughters; Kathleen (Eric) Eastwood of Kingston, Dawn (Peter) Bates of Saint John. Two sisters; Eva Bell of Ontario, and Sarah Wilson of Saint John West. Twin brother Rev. Walter Lynch of Miramichi. Six Grandchildren; Karl and Heather Eastwood, Peter Bates, Alyssa, Brianna and Farrah Shannon, and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents and stepmother May McManus, a sister Mary Unruh, infant brother, Harold Francis Lynch, and grandson, Jeffrey Bates. Resting at Brenan’s Select Community Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John (506) 634-7424. Visitation will take place Saturday and Sunday from 2-4 and 7-9 PM. A Ladies Auxilary Branch # 64 Tribute will take place Sunday at 7 PM. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Pius X Church, Somerset Street, on Monday at 11 AM. Interment will take place at St. Joseph’s Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to a charity of the donor’s choice.
