Obituary of Gerard Edward McDevitt
Gerard Edward “Gerry” McDevitt of Saint John passed away peacefully on Tuesday, August 17, 2010 at the Saint John Regional Hospital following a brief period of failing health. Born at Saint John on October 22, 1947, he was a son of the late James and Marion (Winchester) McDevitt. Gerry worked as a custodian, and was a huge Elvis fan. He enjoyed the “Golden Oldies” in music and also enjoyed watching older movies. Gerry is survived by his siblings, James McDevitt (Nadine), Marion Long, Robert McDevitt (Mary), all of Saint John, and Gordon McDevitt (Lise) of Prince Edward Island; an uncle, Maurice Winchester of Saint John; several nieces, nephews, grand nieces, grand nephews and cousins; and many good friends. In addition to his parents, Gerry was predeceased by a brother-in-law, Murray Long. At Gerry’s request, there will be no visiting. Relatives and friends are invited to attend the Mass of Christian Burial which will be celebrated on Friday, August 20, 2010 at 11:00 AM from St. Peter’s Church, 50 Clarendon Street, Saint John. Interment will take place in St. Joseph’s Cemetery. For those who wish, remembrances to the Alzheimer Society, the Juvenile Diabetes Foundation, or to any charity of the donor's choice would be appreciated by the family. The funeral arrangements are under the care and direction of Brenan's Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John (634-7424).
