Obituary of Ruth Frances Morrell
The death of Ruth Morrell of 55 Magazine Street occurred at the Saint John Regional Hospital on March 15, 2010. Born in Fredericton, NB, she was the daughter of Walter L. and Eva E. (Woodworth) Morrell. Her only sister, Mildred (Mrs. A.W. McIntyre) died in 1972. She is survived by a nephew and three nieces and several grand nieces and nephews. Miss Morrell was a graduate of the University of New Brunswick in Fredericton and held a diploma from the Institute of Education, University of London, UK. She taught school in Welchpool, Campobello Island, Baie du Vin and Hillsborough before coming to Saint John in 1946. Until her retirement in 1978, she was on the staff of Saint John High School. Since then she has been active as a tutor with the Saint John Literacy Council and in the Meals-on-Wheels program. She was a member of the University Women’s Club and the Canadian College of Teachers. During her years in Saint John, she was a regular attendant of Germain Street Baptist Church. There will be a memorial service on Saturday March 27, 2010 at 10 am in the chapel at Brenan’s Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, 634-7424, interment will be in Fernhill Cemetery. Following the burial a reception will be held at Brenans funeral Home In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory to the Canadian Cancer Society or to the charity of choice will be appreciated.
