Obituary of Gordon Douglas Maher
Gordon Douglas Maher of Quispamsis, husband of Susan M. (Wilson) Maher, passed away on Monday, October 18, 2010 at the Saint John Regional Hospital. Born at Saint John on September 26, 1947, he was a son of the late Charles H. and Laura (Kingston) Howe. Gordie worked as a car inspector at Canadian National Railways. He was a former member of the Royal Canadian Legion, where he enjoyed playing darts and cards. Gordie was also a talented musician who played guitar and drums, and played in a band in his younger years. In addition to his wife, Gordie is survived by his children, Laurie Maher of Saint John, Charles “Chuck” Maher of California, Danielle Hicks (Chris) of Quispamsis, and Caleb Maher (Joanne) of Barrie, Ontario; grandchildren Josh, Chloe, and Liam Hicks; a brother, Harold E. Maher (Olivia) of Quispamsis; and two nieces. Resting at Brenan’s Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John (634-7424), with visiting on Wednesday from 2-4 and 7-9 PM. The funeral service will be held on Thursday, October 21, 2010 at 12:00 Noon from Brenan’s Chapel. Interment will take place in Fernhill Cemetery. For those who wish, remembrances to the ALS Society or the Easter Seals Campaign would be appreciated by the family.
