Obituary of Phyllis Keziah Duncan
Duncan, Phyllis Keziah – The death of Phyllis Keziah Duncan of Saint John, NB, wife of the late Lloyd Duncan, occurred on Monday, December 21, 2009 at the Turnbull Nursing Home. Born in St. John’s, Newfoundland on February 4, 1924, she was a daughter of the late James and Elsie (Dyke) Shute. Phyllis was a homemaker and served as a Reservist with the Armed Forces, having received the Order of Military Merit in Ottawa, June 1975, had been president of the Sgt. Mess for several years and a member of the Royal Canadian Legion, Royal Purple. She is survived by five daughters, Phyllis (Harold) Lawson of Quispamsis, NB, Gloria Kelley and Pat (Jack) Carson, both of Saint John, Rose (Scott) Diamond of Toronto, ON, and Debby (Hugo) Bursich of Quispamsis; one son, Lloyd Fred Duncan of Nauwigewauk, NB; six sisters: Ruby Arampatzies of Florida, Vi Horne, Geraldine (Pat) O’Brien and Joan (Gordon) Hill, all three of Ontario, Mervil Sweet of Kingston, NB and Marina Speight of Quispamsis; twelve grandchildren: Bruce Lawson, Brenda Peters, Heidi Carson, Shelley Moore, Lorna Carmichael, Bruce Kelley, Stephen Duncan, Erin and Mike Diamond, Tracey Sveistrup, Tania and Chris Bursich; six great-grandchildren: Brittany and Tyler Peters, Breann Kelley, Joshua, Evan Sveistrup and Carson Moore; many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband; two brothers, James and Herb Shute; three sisters, Rita Lane, Madeline Noel and Muriel Andrews. Arrangements are under the care and direction of Brenan’s Select Community Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John (506) 634-7424. A Memorial Service will be held from Brenan’s Chapel on Thursday, December 24, 2009 at 2:30 pm with visiting from 1:00 pm until the time of the service. Interment will be in Fernhill Cemetery.
