Obituary of Dorothy Mary Gilks
The death of Dorothy Mary Gilks of Saint John, NB, wife of the late Earle Lester Gilks, occurred on Wednesday, February 10, 2010 at the Loch Lomond Villa Nursing Home. Born in South Wales on December 6, 1915, she was the eldest daughter of the late George and Mary Jane Price. Dorothy worked for the Saint John General Hospital and the Regional Hospital as a switchboard operator until her retirement. She was a past member of Martello Temple # 25 Pythian Sisters, where she was past District Deputy Grand Chief. Dorothy was a skilled needlewoman, who knitted for both family and the Mitten Tree. She was a member of Hillcrest Baptist Church. Dorothy was an avid walker and traveler. She was very community minded and she volunteered for many organizations after her retirement including the Red Cross, Meals on Wheels and the Loch Lomond Villa Nursing office. Survived by three sons, Donald (Mary) Weaver of Peterborough, ON; David (Joan) Weaver of Peterborough and Everett (Imelda) Weaver of Bloomfield, NB; two daughters, Ella Gilks of Saint John and Sylvia (Marshall) Anderson of Lake Jackson, Texas; one sister, Grace Price of Saint John; Ten grandchildren; thirteen great-grandchildren. Predeceased by her husband Earle Gilks; one brother, William Price; one daughter-in-law, Maisie Weaver and one infant granddaughter Sarah. Arrangements are under the care and direction of Brenan’s Select Community Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John (506) 634-7424. Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, February 13, 2010 at 10:00 am at Loch Lomond Villa Chapel. Following the funeral service there will be a reception held at the Loch Lomond Villa cafeteria from 2-4 pm. Interment in Ocean View Memorial Gardens on Monday, February 15, 2010. Remembrances may be made to Christian Blind Mission, Loch Lomond Villa Foundation or any charity of the donor’s choice.
