Obituary of Christa L. Roberts

The death of Christa Liselotte (von Wrycz-Reckowsky) Roberts of Saint John, NB, occurred on Saturday, August 7, 2010 at Rocmaura Nursing Home. Born in Perleberg, Germany, she was a daughter of the late Arhur and Hildegard von Wrycz-Reckowsky. Although passionate about Canada, Christa still visited her homeland each year. Christa worked for many years for the YWCA, teaching fitness to women and children. She later hosted the television program “On the Go”. She was actively involved with Tennis NB, the Canada Summer Games, Saint John Softball, Senior Vito’s Hockey, and Saint John Flames 50/50 ticket sales. Christa taught adult education at NBCC Saint John and also worked as a parole officer. She later earned her Master’s degree in Education. Following retirement she worked as a crossing guard and delivered 150 papers daily for the Telegraph Journal. Christa loved to dance, was an avid gardener, and a generous and loving grandmother. She will be sadly missed and always remembered. Christa is survived by one son, Mark Roberts of Fall River, Nova Scotia; one daughter, Anita Jenner (Douglas) of Saint John; two sisters: Sigried Gregory and Renate Henry both of Bristol, England; three grandchildren: Mark, Melissa (Kevin Mailman) and Robyn Jenner; a great granddaughter, Portia Mailman; and several nieces and nephews. Although there will be no visiting, friends and relatives are invited to attend the memorial service which will be held on Saturday, August 14, 2010 at 2:00 PM from the chapel of Brenan’s Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John (634-7424). For those who wish, remembrances to the Rocmaura Foundation, Hope Lutheran Church, or the Animal Rescue League would be appreciated by the family.
