Obituary of Gailyn David Pitt
We are deeply saddened to announce the passing of Gailyn David (Dave) Pitt, a long time resident of Saint John, at the Saint John Regional Hospital on Tuesday, February 2, 2010. Dave bravely fought many battles but finally lost the war with cancer. Dave, or Gailyn, as he was more commonly known on the Kingston Peninsula, was born at Reed's Point, New Brunswick in 1941. He was the son of Harry, Ida and Marie (Berg) Pitt. For the past thirty-five years Dave travelled the Atlantic Provinces and beyond as a Manufacturer's Sales Agent for numerous furniture companies including Durham Furniture, Buhler, Fornorama, Eztia, Braemor, Distinctive and Krohler. To Dave this was more than just a job, it was a profession. His great rapport with his customers was a testament to his passion for people and sales. He was deeply respected and well liked by all who had the good fortune to meet him. He was a life member of the Canadian Professional Sales Association. Prior to going on the road Dave work for Dominion Stores and then Clearview Home Furnishings. Dave enjoyed and was at one time an avid bowler and golfer. He loved reading, doing puzzles, going for walks, and relaxing in his recliner to read the Globe and Mail or to watch golf and baseball. He took great pleasure with his weekly Sunday evening telephone chats with his fellow sales buddies from the road. Dave loved and gave his first priority to his family whom lovingly refer to him as "Papa". He is survived by his loving wife of 45 years, Barbara (nee McGuire-Porter); his five adoring children, Steven Porter (Susan nee Baird), of Quispamsis NB, Michael Porter (Cheryl nee Dore), Claire Porter, Paul Pitt and Tanya Pitt; all of Saint John; his three precious grandchildren, Jennifer Porter, Matthew Porter and Isaac Porter; his brothers, Eldon Pitt (Barb) of Clifton Royal, NB; Jim Berg (Patsy), of Burnstown, ON, Howe Berg (Gaye), of Kelowna BC; and his sisters, Bernice Peterson, of Saint John, NB and Susan Mitchell (Billy) of Chilliwack BC; many nieces, nephews and good friends. He was predeceased by his parents Harry, Ida and Marie (Berg) Pitt and his brother John (Jackie) Berg . Resting at Brenan's Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John (634-7424), with visiting on Saturday and Sunday from 2-4 and 7-9 PM. The funeral service will be held from Brenan’s Chapel on Monday, Febuary 8 , 2010 at 2 PM. In lieu of flowers donations to the Canadian Cancer Society, the New Brunswick Heart and Stroke Foundation, Canadian Diabetes Association or MindCare NB would be greatly appreciated.
