Obituary of Evelyn Patricia MacDonald
The death of Evelyn Patricia MacDonald of Saint John, NB, wife of the late John “Jack” Russell MacDonald, occurred on Sunday, January 24, 2010 at her residence. Born in Moncton, NB on January 1, 1925 she was a daughter of the late Dr. Russell J. and Evelyn I. (Neily) Collins. Pat graduated from Kings Edge Hill School, Windsor, NS. She then attended the School of Art and Design at Chamberlain Retailing in Boston. Pat began her career in the lab at the TBA Hospital, where she met John and they were married in 1949 in Saint John. After moving to Montréal QC, she worked in retail and advertising at Simpson’s, and subsequently began a career in Real Estate, working in both Montréal and Saint John. After retiring from real estate, Pat opened an antique business in Saint John. She was involved in history and the arts her entire life. Survived by her loving children, Kline MacDonald and Martha MacDonald both of Long Reach, Kingston Peninsula; one grandson, Colin Kline MacDonald; one sister, Francis Collins of Long Reach; several nieces and nephews. Predeceased by her husband Jack MacDonald; one brother, Albert Collins and one sister, Martha Schliet. Finally a tribute to Pat’s caregivers to whom without this final journey could not have been done:. Deb who was there in the initial days; Kendra for standing in; Bev, Brenda and Terrie whose care, compassion and heart was greatly appreciated, and the management and staff of Chateau de Champlain that helped out our team. Thank you, Martha, Kline and Colin In keeping with Pat’s wishes, no formal funeral services will be held at this time. Relatives and friends are invited to share their memories at a reception, which will be held at Shadow Lawn Inn, 3180 Rothesay Rd, Rothesay on Thursday, January 28, 2010 from 3-8 pm. For those who wish, remembrances may be made to the New Brunswick Museum, Hospice Saint John or any charity of the donor’s choice. The funeral arrangements are under the care and direction of Brenan’s Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John (506) 634-7424.
