Obituary of Charles Maurice Winchester
Charles Maurice Winchester of Saint John passed away peacefully on Sunday, October 10, 2010 at the Loch Lomond Villa, following a period of failing health. Born at Saint John on March 28, 1915, he was a son of the late Burkett (Burt) and Sophia Annie (Peters) Winchester. Charles worked for many years at Irving Pulp and Paper. He was a member of Lancaster Baptist Church, where he sang with “The Ambassadors”, and was a Veteran of World War II, serving in the Army. He enjoyed playing shuffleboard. Charles is survived by his children, Lee Winchester (Claudette) of Ottawa, ON, Dick Winchester (Joan) of Cornwallis, NS, Douglas Winchester (Florence) of Waterford, NB, Jackie Armstrong (Tim) of Grand Bay-Westfield, and Marlene Farnsworth (Wayne) of Saint John; grandchildren Tim Winchester (Vicki), Terri Short (Tony), Tony Winchester, Tammi Winchester, Paul Winchester, Carmen Stevens (Kevin), Michael Winchester (Denise), Nicole Ricketson (Jim), Carla Brown (Barry), Steven Winchester (Daphné), Matthew Skidmore (Susan), Jason Farnsworth (Tracy), and Shannon Griffin (Mike); 19 great grandchildren; step-children Judy Lazzarato and John Belding; and several nieces and nephews. Charles was predeceased by his first wife, Doris Mary Winchester; his second wife, Loretta Winchester; brothers Clair, Gordon, Vincent, Malcolm, and Richard; and by sisters Dorothy Connelly, Connie Williams, and Marion McDevitt. Resting at Brenan's Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John (634-7424), with visiting on Wednesday from 2-4 and 7-9 PM. The funeral service will be held from Brenan's Funeral Home Chapel on Thursday, October 14, 2010 at 12:00 Noon. Interment will take place in Ocean View Memorial Gardens. For those who wish, remembrances to the Heart and Stroke Foundation or to the Gideons International would be appreciated by the family.
