Obituary of Valerie May Bacon
The death of Valerie May Bacon of Saint John, NB, wife of the late Theodore “Arnold” Bacon, occurred on Sunday, November 1, 2009 at the Saint John Regional Hospital. Born on January 22, 1928 in Cardiff, Wales, she was the daughter of the late Thomas John and Cecilia Mary Mae (Broad) Burningham of London, England. Survived by her son, John Stirling (Dr. Mary Orr) Bacon of Winnipeg, Manitoba; two grandchildren, Kristin Ann and Sean Jeffrey Bacon, also survived by brother-in-law, Doug, sisters-in-law, Betty Bacon and Elaine Hannan-Bacon of Saint John, cousins, Reg (Angie) Cook of Edmonton and Gordon Cook (Merle) of the U.K., several nieces and nephews. Valerie was predeceased by her husband, Arnold on August 14, 2009. Valerie had been employed for many years by special friend, the late Dr. Henrick Tonning. Valerie’s fondest memories were of her many travels around the world with Arnold and her many friends. She was an avid bridge player and was especially proud of her involvement with the “Fundy Frolics” productions in Saint John in the early 1960’s. Valerie truly appreciated the support of Betty, Elaine and Kathy during the past few years. By request of the family there will be no funeral home visitation. Funeral Service will be held from Portland United Church, Newport Crescent, Saint John on Thursday, November 5, 2009 at 11:00 am. A private family interment will be held at Ocean View Memorial Gardens. Remembrances made to the Portland United Church Memorial Fund would be appreciated by the family.
