Obituary of Brenda Jane Likely
It is with heavy hearts that the family of Brenda Likely announces her death after a short, yet courageous battle with cancer. Brenda was the wife and soulmate of Michael Bruce Likely for 38 years, and his Saint John High School sweetheart prior to their marriage. Brenda was born in Bath, NB and is the daughter of Winona Stoddard (Cole), and the late Gilbert Stoddard. Brenda was a proud Maritimer, and was eager to return “home” after living in Ontario and Halifax for numerous years. Brenda enjoyed her years of employment with Air Canada, Bank of Nova Scotia and Hepcoe Credit Union, but her favourite position was the role she played as household organizer, and mom. Brenda loved to be with her family and always looked forward to seeing her nephews and nieces; she loved to hear all their stories and about all their activities. Brenda was proud of all of them! Brenda enjoyed skiing and was quite proud of her snow bunny status at many ski resorts. Brenda also enjoyed the warmer climates of the sunny south. Brenda would be the first off the mark for trips to the Caribbean and Mexico. In recent years, Brenda was re-introduced to sailing. Brenda enjoyed many sailing adventures on Mannana III, sailing up and down the St. John river with friends and family. Brenda was always open to an adventure that involved a good time. Those adventures ranged from trips, to concerts, dinner parties; whatever the adventure, Brenda was always the last to leave the party! Brenda is survived by her husband, Michael Likely. She was Mommy to Rachel Erin Hogg (Christopher), and the proud, enthusiastic Grannie to grandsons Jacob Ryan Hogg, Joshua Dylan Hogg, and granddaughter Miss Riley Elizabeth Hogg. Brenda is also survived by her “Mom” Winona (Stoddard), and was a big sister to Celine (Paul) Steeves, Debbie (Mark) Ricketts, Kim (Mark) Anderson, Cathy (Bill) Belding, along with 10 nieces and 3 nephews. Brenda was predeceased by her beloved son, Timothy, father Gilbert, stepfather Gene, nephew Matthew, and mother-in-law Helen Likely. The spark within Brenda will never be extinguished. She will be greatly missed. Resting at Brenan’s Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John (506-634-7424), with visiting on Sunday from 3-7pm. The funeral service will be held from Westfield United Church, 133 Nerepis Road, Grand Bay-Westfield, on Monday at 11:00a.m. Interment will take place in Fernhill Cemetery. For those who wish, remembrances to the Canadian Cancer Society, Hospice Saint John, or a charity of the donor’s choice would be greatly appreciated. www.brenansfh.com
