Obituary of John James Cunningham
John James Cunningham of Calgary passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, February 16, 2010. Born at Moncton, New Brunswick on December 5, 1943, he was a son of the late John Carol and Ann Laura (Carey) Cunningham. John was raised in Moncton, and was a 1963 graduate of Moncton High School, but his summers were often spent at the family cottage in Shediac Bridge. After high school, John worked in Moncton for a short time, before being transferred with his job, eventually ending up in Western Canada. He was an avid history buff, and had a passion both for antiques and for the Armed Forces, being a member of the Canadian Army Reserve and Cadets for much of his life. He was also a member of the Masonic Lodge, and even though he was often far away, always kept his family in his heart. John is survived by a brother, Paul Cunningham and his wife Heather of Quispamsis, NB; a nephew, Michael Cunningham of Vancouver, British Columbia; two uncles, Ernie Carey of Victoria, BC and Larry Carey of Calgary; and by several cousins, both in New Brunswick and Western Canada. A memorial service will take place at a later date in Moncton, followed by interment in Our Lady of Calvary Cemetery, Chartersville. For those who wish, remembrances to the War Amps or any charity of the donor's choice would be appreciated by the family. Arrangements in New Brunswick are under the care and direction of Brenan’s Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John (634-7424).
