Obituary of Hilda Charlotte Travers
Hilda Charlotte Travers (nee Armstrong) died peacefully at Fundy Nursing Home, Blacks Harbour, NB, on November 28, 2009, at the age of 95. Wife of the late Ray B. Travers, she was born in Pennfield, NB, on February 24, 1914. Hilda worked at the Gull and Herring Restaurant in New River and at Connors Bros. in Beaver Harbour. She was a member of Christ Church, Anglican Church in Pennfield and was renowned for her knitting, letter writing and cooking. She will be missed by her son, Ray C. Travers (Helen) of Douglas, NB; three grandchildren, Sandra (Charles) Howland of Mactaquac, NB, Leslie Travers of Grand Bay, NB, and Ray P. (Carol) Travers of Royal Road, NB; four great-grandchildren, David and Julia Howland, and Amanda and Charlotte. Travers; a sister, Dorothy (William) Hawkins of Nackawic, NB; and several nephews and nieces, including Susie Armstrong of St. George. In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by her parents Leslie and Florence (Trynor) Armstrong; three sisters, Helen, Annie and Florence; and seven brothers, Lewis, Byron, Howard, Burton, Clifford, Earle and John. Although there will be no visitation, relatives and friends are invited to attend the funeral service which will be held at Christ Church, Anglican Church, Pennfield, NB, on Wednesday, December 2, at 2 p.m. Interment will follow in the adjoining cemetery. For those who wish, remembrances in Hilda’s memory may be made to the charity of one’s choice. The funeral arrangements are under the care and direction of Brenan’s Select Community Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John (634-7424).
