Obituary of David H. Gillis

It is with great sadness that the family of David Gillis of Saint John, loving husband of 36 years to the late Sally (Bardsley) Gillis announces his passing, which occurred on Thursday, January 22, 2015, at his home. Born on May 16, 1949, he was the son of the late Cyril and Eileen (Carty) Gillis. Dave was a 1968 graduate of Simonds High School. Prior to his retirement in 2007, he was employed his entire career with J.D. Irving Limited. Dave had many passions in life and was an extraordinary husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend. In the early years, Dave and Sally along with their children enjoyed many vacations together. Together with Sally, Dave travelled to many destinations down south, Ireland and Europe. He also enjoyed relaxing with a good book, cooking, fishing and hockey. He will be sadly missed. Dave is survived by his children, Emily Allaby (Michael) of Saint John and Matthew Gillis (Erin) of Moncton; precious grandsons, Samuel and Connor Allaby and Jeremiah and Theo Breau-Gillis; sisters, Shirley Mackin, Theresa Cummings and Margaret Gaudet (Ron) all of Saint John; brother, Paul Gillis (Denise) of Quebec; several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents and wife, Dave was also predeceased by his brother-in-law, Paul Mackin. Resting at Brenan’s Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John (634-7424) with visiting on Sunday, January 25, 2015 from 7:00 - 9:00 PM and Monday, January 26, 2015 from 2:00 - 8:00 PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated from the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception, 91 Waterloo Street, Saint John, on Tuesday, January 27, 2015, at 12:10 PM.
