Obituary of James D. Cooper

The family of Jim Cooper announce his passing, surrounded by his loving family, on Friday, December 5, 2014 at the Saint John Regional Hospital. Born in Saint John, he was a son of the late Frank and Catherine (McGill) Cooper. Jim served overseas in World War II in England and other parts of Europe for 4 years with the RCAF, and later with the Canadian War Crimes Trials in Aurich, Germany. Following the war, he worked for CNR out of Moncton for 45 years with the claims office until his retirement. After retirement he spent many happy hours on the golf course and a lot of precious time at his cottage on the Saint John River. He was a faithful and long-time parishioner of St. Pius X Church, #6581 Knights of Columbus, #69 Branch Royal Canadian Legion, and the CN Pensioners Association. Jim also volunteered with Meals on Wheels for 20 years. Jim’s quick wit and sense of humour will be greatly missed by his 4 daughters: Diane Lawson, Elaine, Barbara Hierlihy (David), and Christine Barriault (John Kay); 2 sons: Jim Jr. (Eleanor), and Stephen; 12 grandchildren, 9 great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his wife, Frances Elizabeth (Murphy) Cooper and his parents, Jim was predeceased by his son David, as well as his 3 brothers and 2 sisters. Resting at Brenan’s Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John, 634-7424, with visiting on Monday, December 8, 2014 from 3 to 7 pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, December 9, 2014 at 11am from St. Pius X Church. Interment will take place at St. Joseph’s Cemetery at a later date.
