Obituary of Fred Warner Burdon
Mr. Fred Warner Burdon of Ridgewood Veteran’s Wing, husband of the late Joan Burdon, passed away on May 15, 2015. Born in Saint John, on March 17, 1921, son of the late Bert A. Burdon and Dorothy E. (Pitt) Burdon. Fred was a veteran of World War II and served in the Canadian Merchant Marine at sea from 1941-1946 and 1948-1949 and was an Officer in Charge at Fame Point, Quebec from 1949-1954. He taught radio electronics for 13 years at Saint John Vocational School, 10 years with C.A.M.R as a special education teacher at Princess Elizabeth School and retired in June 1981. Fred was a member of St. Johns (Stone) Church. He was the last surviving member of his immediate family. He is survived by his sons: Don (Pat) of New Maryland, Wayne (Brenda) of Quispamsis; Van (Bill) of Clifton Royal, Jon (Heather) of Saint John, and Ian (Lois) of New Maryland; daughters: Pam Nyers (Jim) of Quispamsis and Shani O’Leary (Tony) of St. Stephen;; grandchildren: Duane (Caroline), Jennifer, Shelley (Jean-Pierre), Paul, Lisa (Brent), Chris, Janette, Shawn, Eric, Jamie, Natasha, Matthew, and Nathanael; eight great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews; sponsored son Rev. Dr. Joseph Galgalo (Jane) of Kenya and their daughters, Faith, Joan and Mariam. Besides his parents and his wife he was predeceased by his brother, Rev. Roger A. Burdon and his wife Glory; Thomas H. Burdon and his wife Barbara. Resting at Brenan's Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John (634-7424), with visiting on Wednesday, June 3, 2015 from 1-3 and 6-8 pm. The funeral service will be held from St. John’s (Stone) Church, 87 Carleton Street on, Thursday, July 23, 2015 at 11:00 am. Interment will take place in Ocean View Memorial Gardens. For those who wish, remembrances to the St. John’s (Stone) Church Building Fund or Heart and Stroke Foundation, would be appreciated by the family. Heartfelt thanks to Ridgewood staff and Doctors for their excellent care. We have been blessed with having Dad with us for the past 5 years due to all of you and your compassionate care.
