Obituary of Murray Dean MacGowan
The death of Murray MacGowan of Saint John occurred on Thursday, March 26, 2015, at Carleton Kirk Lodge. Born on September 20, 1936 in Hillaton, NS, he was the son of the late Murray L. and Bessie (Rushton) MacGowan. Dean owned MacGowan Brothers Roofing with his brother Darrell until his retirement in 2003. He was a member of Carleton Union #8 F&AM/Luxor Shriner. Dean was also a Chartered member and secretary treasurer of the Luxor Railway Unit. He was an avid fisherman and enjoyed his days fishing at Beaver Lake where he was also a member. Dean is survived by his children, Darrell K. MacGowan (Renee) and Belinda MacGowan all of Saint John; spouse, Helen (Whelpley) MacGowan of Saint John; brother, Darrell R. MacGowan (Betty) of Saint John; sisters, Verna Esterbrooks of Sackville and Audrey Lee (George) Quebec; grandchildren, James and Abagail; canine companion, Bruin; as well as several nieces and nephews. Resting at Brenan’s Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John (634-7424) with visiting on Tuesday, March 31, 2015 from 2-4 and 7-9 PM. A Masonic Tribute will be held Tuesday at 6:00 PM. The funeral service will be held from Brenan’s Chapel on Wednesday, April 1, 2015, at 12:00 Noon. Interment will take place in Cedar Hill Extension Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made to the Shriner's Hospital for Children (Luxor Temple) or a charity of the donor’s choice.
