Born in Newcastle, NB on July 15, 1914, she was a daughter of the late Elias and Elizabeth (McLean) Astlex. Mildred enjoyed curling at Thistle St. Andrews Curling Club, and worked at the grocery store with her husband, was a model for Calp’s Clothing, and also worked at New System Dry Cleaners. Mildred is survived by her only son, Edward; 3 grandchildren: Dana (Sue), Robert (Trina), and Bridget Olsen; 4 great-grandchildren: Andrew, Laura, Edward, and Nicholas; and several nieces and nephews. Besides her parents and husband, she was predeceased by her 5 sisters: Myrtle McLellan, Ida Ralph, Sadie Curtis, Della Dykeman, and Dorothy McEachern. Arrangements are under the care and direction of Brenan’s Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John, 634-7424. In keeping with the family’s wishes, there will be no funeral service at this time. Interment will be held in Riverbank Cemetery in the spring. Remembrances to the Canadian Cancer Society or the Canadian Diabetes Association would be appreciated by the family.
