Obituary of Nina Inez Sabin
Nina Sabin passed away on Monday, December 1, 2014, at the Saint John Regional Hospital’s Palliative Care Unit. Born on November 25, 1952, she was the daughter of the late Jack Gee and Evelyn (Brown) Hill. Nina was born in Perth, New Brunswick. She moved to Saint John as a child and was a lifelong west-sider, while staying true to her Carleton County roots, spending many summers with her cousins on the farm. In her youth, she was a member of Brownies, Girl Guides, and Shimpokai Academy of Judo. Nina attended Seawood Elementary, Beaconsfield Junior High School, and Saint John High School, where she made many friends who have remained part of her life. After high school, she graduated from NBCC with a secretarial diploma. She then went to work at Kelly Tire and Labatt’s Brewery before becoming a mother and staying at home to raise her two children, Andrew and Lynn. She later worked at K-Mart and Seacoast Motel, and then began looking after two children who would become a very special part of her life. Nina then went to work at Kent Building Supplies. After 11 years of service, she retired from Kent in August 2014. Nina was a devoted member of Carleton-Kirk United Church. She served as church Treasurer. Over the years, she took great joy in her involvement in Christian Education, particularly youth activities. She was also a faithful member of the UCW. In addition to her loving husband of 40 years, Richard, Nina is survived by her children: Andrew Sabin (Tiffany) and Lynn Gotell (Cory); grandson, Connor; sister, Skana Gee (Dave Whynacht); nephews, Griffin and Robin; niece, Tova; special Aunt, Annie Green of Bristol; brothers-in-law, Paul Sabin (Harvey Hamburg) and Ted Sabin (Alice); special friends, Sam and Anna Kane; and several cousins and close friends. She was predeceased by her father, mother, and step-father, Leroy Hill. Resting at Brenan’s Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John (634-7424), with visiting on Wednesday, December 3, 2014, from 2-4 and 6-8pm. The funeral will take place on Thursday, December 4, 2014 in Brenan’s Funeral Home Chapel at 10am. A private family interment will take place at Cedar Hill Extension Cemetery. Remembrances to Carleton-Kirk United Church, the Extra Mural Program, or the Canadian Liver Foundation would be appreciated by the family. Please place online condolences and remembrances at www.brenansfh.com.
