Obituary of Elmer R. Thompson
The death of Elmer R. Thompson of Saint John, husband of Jean (Speight) Thompson, occurred at the Saint John Regional Hospital on Wednesday, August 27, 2014. Elmer was born in Saint John on September 6, 1925, a son of the late Russell C. and Blanche (McDowell) Thompson. He was employed with NBTel for 45 years, retiring in 1986. Elmer was a honourary life member of the New Brunswick Lodge No.22 F&AM and was a 60 year member, and he was a member of the Telephone Pioneers. Elmer was Baptist by faith. Besides his wife, he is survived by his daughters: Betty, Cathy, and Judy Thompson, all of Saint John West; two brothers: Eldon (Virginia) of Ottawa, ON and Winston (Carolyn) of Rothesay, NB; his sister, Patricia (Gerald) Janes of Dipper Harbour; daughter-in-law, Monica Thompson of Rothesay, NB; three grandchildren: Christa, David, and Stephen; sister-in-law, Jean Thompson of Ottawa, ON; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. Elmer was predeceased by his two sons: Dr. S. Elmer "Tom" Thompson and Maurice R. "Larry" Thompson; one brother, Maurice; and two sisters: Marie Fulton and Inez Dunfield. Arrangements are under the care of Brenan’s Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John, 634-7424. By Elmer’s request there will be no visitation at the funeral home, however relatives and friends are welcome to attend a graveside service to be held at Maces Bay Cemetery on Saturday, August 30, 2014 at 2:00 pm. For those who wish, donations to the Palliative Care Unit at the Saint John Regional Hospital or a charity of the donor’s choice would be appreciated by the family. www.brenansfh.com.
