Obituary of Eleanor P. Craig

It is with deep sadness that the family of Eleanor (Colwell) Craig announces her passing, which occurred on Wednesday February18, 2015. Born on February 9, 1943 in Saint John, NB, she was the daughter of the late Gerald and Phoebe Colwell. Eleanor was predeceased by her younger sister, Valerie Colwell-Estey and son, Todd Craig. Eleanor is survived by her son, Troy Craig (Kandis) and daughter, Krista-Lynn Craig-Petre (Donavin); sister, Phyllis Colwell-Lynch (David); spouse, Gordon Cross; sister-in-law, Carol Ferris (Buzzy); grandchildren, Brittany, Alexander, Tyler, Paxton and Brandon; great-grandson, Xander and many nieces and nephews. Born and raised in the north end of Saint John, Eleanor worked for the Scotiabank for over 37 years at the Main Street location before retiring. She was a fan of mystery novels and classic movies. Eleanor belonged to The North End Women’s Bowling League and the Jarvis Bay Legion Women's Dart League. However, her greatest pastime pleasure was camping with friends and family during the summer months. She also enjoyed playing horseshoes, hunting, target practice, fishing, taking long walks through the woods and birdwatching. She was a strong independent women who spoke her mind and rarely left you guessing where you stood with her. Eleanor will be greatly missed by all. It was her request there be no visitation or formal funeral service. A graveside service will be scheduled for a later date. Please contact Eleanor’s family for the details. The family also requests that no flowers be sent and for those who wish, remembrances may be made to Bobby’s Hospice, where Eleanor spent her last few weeks in comfort and good spirits. Arrangements are under the care and direction of Brenan’s Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John (634-7424).
