Obituary of Helen Dorothy McCaig
The death of Helen McCaig, wife of the late John Leo McCaig occurred on Wednesday, February 12, 2014, at the Saint John Regional Hospital. She was born on October 4, 1916 in Saint John to the late Joseph and Mabel (Holloway) Mercer. In her younger years, Helen worked at Bradbury Agency and later retired from the Canadian Red Cross in office administration. She was a member of St. Luke's Church and enjoyed travelling and crossword puzzles. Helen was a devoted wife and mother; she treasured time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Helen is survived by her son, Doug McCaig (Donna) of Saint John; granddaughters: Lana McCullough (Orvil), Debbie Sleigh (Austin) and Christa Barton (Scott); great-grandchildren: Brock, Jordan, Shelby, Shannen, Devin, Colin, Mia and Madelyn; as well as many special nieces and nephews. Besides her husband and parents, Helen was also predeceased by sisters: Eileen Bradley and Marion Watson. Resting at Brenan's Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John (634-7424) with visiting on Monday, February 17, 2014 from 2-4 and 7-9 PM. The Funeral Service will be held from Brenan's Chapel on Tuesday, February 18, 2014, at 12:00 Noon. Interment will take place in Old Cedar Hill Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, remembrances made to Bobby's Hospice or to the charity of the donor's choice would be appreciated by the family.
