Obituary of Mary Catherine Wigginton
With family at her side, Mary passed away peacefully at the Turnbull Nursing Home on Saturday, November 28, 2015 at the age of 88. She was the widow of Robert Wigginton and the only child of the late Harry and Nina E. (McKiel) Palmer. Mary was a graduate of Saint John High School, attended Mount Allison University and completed the Registered Nurses’ Program at the old Saint John General Hospital. She was an accomplished pianist when she was young and continued to enjoy music throughout her life. A skilled seamstress, Mary also learned to knit at a very young age and continued to knit throughout her life. She was a life-long member of Portland United Church and was an active member of the Jane Henderson Unit of the UCW where she formed many deep and lasting friendships. She also had been a long-time volunteer with the United Church clothing depot. Together, Mary and her husband Bob proudly owned and operated Neill Printing for many years; a business noted for the quality, efficiency and friendliness of its service. Her family was always very important to Mary and she is survived by her daughters Lynn Wigginton Peters (Dale) of Saint John, Jane R. Mead of Halifax, Andrea P. Daley (Kevin) of Rothesay, and Catherine C. Wigginton of Saint John; grandchildren Chris, Graeme and Jared Peters, Melanie and Katie Barbour and Alex, Ken and Kathleen Daley; and three great-grandchildren. The family would like to express their sincere thanks and gratitude to all the staff and volunteers at Turnbull Nursing Home for your compassion and care for Mary. Your kindness and support will never be forgotten. Arrangements are under the care and direction of Brenan’s Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John, NB (634-7424), where a funeral service will be held from Brenan’s Chapel on Wednesday, December 2, 2015 at 12:00 PM. For those who wish, remembrances in memory of Mary may be made to the Turnbull Nursing Home or Portland United Church.
