Obituary of Barbara Jean Nickerson
Barbara Nickerson passed away on Saturday, August 9, 2014. Born on June 21, 1927, she was the daughter of the late Leon and Elsie (Stephenson) Seely. Barb retired from the City of Saint John where she served for 30 years; 17 of those years as secretary to nine different Mayors. Following retirement she enjoyed travelling to Florida with her longtime companion Norman Hatto (deceased). Barb also loved golfing, playing bridge, reading and knitting. She was an active member of the Order of the Eastern Star – Chapter 14, an associate member of the Riverside Country Club and was a former member of the Sussex Golf and Country Club. Barb belonged to the City of Saint John Retirees, was a member of Probus, a volunteer with the Friends of Hospice and loved her time spent with her friends at Book Club. Besides her parents, Barb was also predeceased by her brother, Ted Seely and her beloved daughter, Brenda Moore. She is survived by her grandchildren, Matthew Gray (Kelda Smith) of NS, Samantha Gray (Ryan McRae) and Shauna Gray (Ryan Kilfoil) all of Saint John; children, Brian Moore of Riverview, Bonnie Siberry (David) of ON and Barry Moore (Marie) of SK; daughter-in-law, Janet Moore of BC; one niece and two nephews; seven grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; as well as son-in-law, David Gray (Lorraine – special friend) of Saint John. Resting at Brenans’ Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John (634-7424) with visiting on Tuesday, August 12 from 7:00 – 9:00 PM. The funeral service will be held from Brenan’s Funeral Home Chapel on Wednesday, August 13, 2014, at 12:00 Noon. A private interment will take place in the Church of the Ascension Cemetery, Hampton. For those who wish, remembrances may be made to Bobby’s Hospice.
