Obituary of Ruth Egerton Thomson
The family is saddened to announce the death of Ruth Thomson of Halifax, and formerly of Saint John, on Wednesday, October 29 at Camp Hill Veterans Memorial Building. Born in Lower Norton, NB, on July 29, 1921, she was the daughter of Charlotte Winifred Dixon and Stanley Byron Dixon. Ruth served in the RCAF in Gander during WWII. She was a teacher with the Saint John School Board, and taught at various schools throughout the city prior to her retirement in 1985. She was a lifelong member of St. James Anglican Church and served as a Synod delegate. Ruth was a proud member of the United Empire Loyalists and a long serving contributor to the New Brunswick Historical Society. She was a volunteer with the Empty Stocking Fund for many years, as well as the N.B. Competitive Festival of Music. She was an avid badminton player, and as a spectator thoroughly enjoyed and stayed current with many other sports. She looked forward to spending time with family at their summer camp on the Belleisle. She will be lovingly missed. Ruth is survived by her children, Richard (Claudia Schultz) of Ontario, Philip of Ohio, Donald (Janet Holmes) of Dartmouth and Shirley of Dartmouth. She was predeceased by her husband Harold and her sister Audrey Law. Resting at Brenan’s Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John (634-7424) with visiting on Sunday, November 2 from 2-5 and 7-9. The funeral service will be held from St. Mary and St. Bartholomew’s Anglican Church, 646 Westmorland Road, Saint John, on Monday, November 3 at 2:30 PM. For those who wish, donations made to a charity of their choice would be appreciated by the family.
