Obituary of Thomas W. Spires
With his loving wife, Linda at his side the death of Tom Spires, occurred at the Saint John Regional Hospital on Sunday, December 1, 2013 after a brief illness. He was born on February 14, 1955 in Woodstock to the late Arthur and Edith (MacDonald) Spires. Tom first worked in Woodstock as an ambulance driver until his move to Saint John in 1978. He began working at the General Hospital then the Regional Hospital. Tom worked his various departments throughout the years: OR, Morgue, GI Lab, Portering and Blood Lab. After many knee surgeries, Tom was forced to retired in 1999. Tom had a great love for all music and self taught himself to play the bass guitar. He had an affinity for cars; his passion was his 1972 Dodge Dart Swinger. In later years had loved to travel, enjoying cruises and a trip to New York City. Tom was heavily involved in pyrotechnics/fireworks; he did a display for Queen Elizabeth II on her visit to Saint John. Tom wore his heart on his sleeve; he was generous with his time and possessions. He would give you the shirt off his back and was thankful for each day. Tom had great success with his friends of Bill and Lonewater Farm. He was a member of Park Avenue United Church and the Church Choir. Besides his wife, Linda (Puddington) Spires; Tom is survived by his daughters: Amanda Scott (Chris) of Pennfield and Ann Wilcox (Corey) of St. Stephen; brothers: Wayne (Bev) of Moores Mills, Gordon (Mavis) of Woodstock and Maurice of Vancouver, BC; sister, Jackie Spires of London, ON; five grandchildren: Austin, Phillip, Vanessa, Brandon and Gage; aunt, Doreen MacDonald; nieces: Tami, Tina, Sarah and Carrie; nephew, Scott and several other nieces and nephews. Resting at Brenan's Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John (634-7424) with visiting on Tuesday and Wednesday from 2-4 and 6-8 pm. The Funeral Service will be held from Park Avenue United Church on Thursday, December 5, 2013 at 11:00 am. Interment will take place in Cedar Hill Extension Cemetery. For those who wish remembrances to the charity of the donor’s choice would be appreciated by the family.
