Obituary of John David McMaster
With heavy hearts, the family of John David McMaster, loving husband to Carol Fortune, announces his passing at Bobby's Hospice on Sunday, April 12. Born in Yarmouth, Nova Scotia on January 30, 1963 to Jack and Joyce (Gillis) McMaster, John’s professional life was spent in the hospitality industry. After graduating from NBCC in St. Andrew’s, John worked at the Holiday Inn and the Delta Brunswick Hotel. He then joined his father, Jack in the Subway restaurant business in Saint John. John was the epitome of the ‘gentle giant’, a large man with a large heart who would rather smile and laugh than argue and fight. John’s life was about spending time with family and large circle of friends. His brother and sisters and their children were a huge part of John’s life and he prided himself on his family life. John and Carol had the good fortune to travel extensively, and their true "home away from home" was the beautiful island of St. Martin, FWI, where they made many more lifelong friends. John loved to entertain, he enjoyed cooking and was happiest when he had a crowd of family and friends to cater to. There are far too many friends to mention, who came to know and love John, and his passing has touched people far beyond the borders of his own family. From his former coworkers, to his golf buddies, to his oldest friends from his Quinton Heights childhood, there are many people who will miss John and his generous nature. Besides his wife John is survived by his two step-daughters, Angela Campbell (Jim Wilson) of Saint John; Sarah Campbell McNamara (Chris) of Quispamsis; sisters, Jayne McMaster (Brendan O’Reilly) of Sligo, Ireland and Sue McMaster of Halifax; brother, Peter McMaster (Christa) of Saint John; five grandchildren Gabe, Calvin, Emma, Zoe and Quinn; and six nieces and nephews, Olivia, Mackenzie, Aidan, Eva, Kyle and Kate. Resting at Brenan's Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John NB, (634-7424) with visitation on Tuesday, April 14 from 6 to 8 pm and Wednesday, April 15 from 2 to 4 pm and 6 to 8pm. A Memorial Service to be held at Imperial Theatre, 24 King Sq. South Thursday, April 16 at 2:00 PM. Following the service friends and family are invited to Callahan's Pub, 2 Princess Street at 4:00 PM for a special happy-hour to share stories and celebrate John's life. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Bobby's Hospice and Imperial Theatre. Please place online condolences and remembrances at www.brenansfh.com.
