Obituary of Chester Robert Biggs
It is with great sadness that the family of Chester Robert Biggs announces his unexpected passing which occurred on February 19, 2015 at the Ridgewood Veterans Wing. Born in Mckees Mills, NB on February 25, 1923, he was the son of the late J. Everett & Grace (Beers) Biggs. He was 91. Chester is survived by his wife Georgina (Lamb) of 64 years; three children, Dwayne (Nancy) of Toronto, Stephen (Sandy) of Saint John and Karen (Dean) of Saint John; by 4 grandchildren, Christopher (Laura), Stephanie, Isaac, and Ethan; 3 sisters, Marjorie Glencross of Maynard, Massachusetts, Shirley MacDonald of Moncton, Lenora Hudson of Moncton and one brother Hartley Biggs of Saint John and numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by sisters Eleanor and Helen; brothers Waldo and Kenneth. Chester served in Italy, France and Germany in WWII with the Railroad Corps Carleton and York Engineers. He then worked for CN for 24 years and Baxter’s Dairies for 28 years. He was a long time member of Portland United Church, a past Elder and member of the Men’s Club. He was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 64. Chester was an avid camper until the age of 88, spending summers on Grand Lake and at Cambridge Narrows. Chester was known for his quick wit and ability to bring comic relief to any crowd. Resting at Brenan’s Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John, NB (634-7424) with visiting on Saturday, February 21, 2015 from 2 to 4 pm and 6 to 8 pm. A funeral service will be held from Portland United Church on Monday, February 23, 2015 at 12:00 noon. Interment will take place at Ocean View Memorial Gardens following the service. For those who wish, remembrances can be made to Portland United Church, Ridgewood Veterans Wing or a charity of one’s choice. Online condolences can be placed at www.brenansfh.com
