Obituary of Frederick Joseph Ross
It is with great sadness that the family of Frederick Joseph Ross announces his passing on 19 August, 2014. Born in Saint John in 1927, he was the son of the late Ernest and Elizabeth Ross and was also predeceased by his loving wife Sheila. He is survived by his sister Theresa; his son Christopher and his daughters Lorna and Catherine; as well as his grandchildren, Julia, Jeremy, Olivia, Thea, Liam and Aiden. Fred spent his lifetime as an artist, gaining a national reputation as one of Canada’s finest draughtsmen and painters. His achievements were recognized through an honorary doctorate from the University of New Brunswick, the Order of New Brunswick, the Order of Canada and numerous other awards. His work hangs in galleries and private collections across Canada including the National Gallery in Ottawa. His work is particularly revered in his home province of New Brunswick, his lifelong home. He loved the character and uniqueness of the people of the province, who served as the models and inspiration for his work. A public visitation will be held at Brenan’s Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John (634-7424) on Friday, August 22 from 4:00 - 7:00 PM. The funeral service will be held at Trinity Anglican Church, 115 Charlotte Street, Saint John on Saturday, August 23 at 11:00 AM. For those who wish, remembrances may be made to St. Joseph’s Restorative Care or to The Fred Ross Scholarship.
